Microsoft: No More Windows 10 Upgrades for Older Atom PCs
If you accept an older, Cantlet-based PC, y'all might take noticed that it refused to upgrade to Windows ten Creators Update.
That's not going to change; since "these systems are no longer supported by Intel," Microsoft says, they will not exist getting the latest version of Redmond'south Os. But given that these PCs aren't terribly ancient, the company has decided to extend support for them until 2023.
Affected PCs include those running Intel Atom Z2760, Z2580, Z2560, and Z2520 Clover Trail processors. As ZDNet notes, these machines—like the HP Envy X2—were announced in 2022 and sold throughout 2022 and 2022. They were eligible for the free Windows 10 upgrade and the Anniversary Update, but not April's Creators Update.
"Devices utilizing Intel Clover Trail Atom Processors...require additional hardware back up to provide the best possible experience when updating to the latest Windows ten feature update, the Windows x Creators Update," Microsoft said in a statement. "Yet, these systems are no longer supported by Intel...and without the necessary commuter support, they may exist incapable of moving to the Windows 10 Creators Update without a potential performance impact."
As a result, these machines are stuck on the Anniversary Update. The problem is, support for the Anniversary Update is scheduled to end in 2022 because Microsoft's Windows as a Service model sees Windows 10 users upgrading on a regular ground equally new updates became bachelor.
Had those with Clover Trail PCs not upgraded to Windows ten and remained on Windows 8.one, they would exist supported until 2023, the scheduled terminate of life for Windows viii.i. As a result, Microsoft will extend back up for the Ceremony Update until January 2023 to put it in line with the Windows eight.i schedule.
